Nearly a quarter of gig workers report not having health insurance, with most saying they can’t afford it, according to a survey released Tuesday by a broker that sells plans on the Obamacare exchanges.
However, San Francisco-based Stride Health, which works with companies such as Uber and Doordash that use independent contractors, found that 45% of gig workers who do have health insurance pay nothing for premiums on the Affordable Care Act exchanges. Another 27% pay less than $100 per family member. Stride Health surveyed more than 4,000 gig workers in September and October.
