Madison Square Garden will pay approximately $1.3 million to resolve a class lawsuit alleging it illegally rejected nearly 400 black and Latino applicants under its criminal background check policy.
The mediated settlement also requires “The World’s Most Famous Arena” to formalize its criminal records check policy in writing and provide future applicants with advance notice when a past criminal violation may disqualify them from employment, according to a motion filed in federal court in Manhattan seeking preliminary approval of the proposed pact.
