Lesbian ExxonMobil Technician to Get Hostile Environment Trial

A jury must decide whether harassment a lesbian employee says she was subjected to at an ExxonMobil refinery was sex-based and severe or pervasive enough to violate federal law, the Northern District of Illinois ruled.

A trial is also necessary to determine whether ExxonMobil Corp. did enough to end the hostile environment Amy Phillips allegedly faced while working as a process technician at the company’s Joliet, Ill., facility, the court said Wednesday.
