Lawmakers Unveil First GOP Paid Leave Proposal of 2019

Sens. Joni Ernst and Mike Lee unveiled a paid parental leave plan March 12, the first of potentially several proposals from Republicans aimed at fulfilling the Trump administration’s call for a federal paid leave solution for new parents.

The Child Rearing and Development Leave Empowerment (CRADLE) Act would enable new parents to receive one, two, or three months of paid leave through early access to Social Security benefits in exchange for postponing Social Security in retirement by two, four, or six months.
