Labor Peace for Pot a Must for California Cannabis Businesses

New cannabis businesses in California will have to have a labor contract or agreement in hand to get a license to operate under a new state law.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed several bills aimed at improving the prospects for unions in organizing campaigns. Assembly Bill 1291, by Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer (D), requires cannabis dispensary applicants to file a notarized statement promising to enter into a labor peace agreement or a contract within 60 days of having 20 employees. The bill is backed by the United Food and Commercial Workers, Western States Council.
