Judge Nixes Staffing Firm’s Request to Dismiss Trafficking Case

A federal judge in Ohio denied a health-care staffing company’s bid to dismiss human trafficking charges against it leveled by a former employee.

Novie Dale Carmen, a citizen of the Philippines, accused Health Carousel LLC of human trafficking and involuntary servitude. The Hamilton County, Ohio-based staffing company recruits mainly Filipino women for health-care employers nationwide and sponsors their resident visa applications, according to a Thursday ruling by Judge Douglas R. Cole of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
