Joint Employment Claims Revived Against DirecTV, Maryland Contractor

DirecTV will have to defend minimum wage and overtime claims brought by technicians that provided services through an intermediary company, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit held Jan. 25.

The trial court erred in dismissing minimum wage and overtime claims against DIRECTV LLC and a “middle manager” or intermediary company that provided technicians to the satellite TV company, the Fourth Circuit said (Hall v. DIRECTV, LLC, 2017 BL 21062, 4th Cir., No. 15-1857, 1/25/17).
