Jobless Aid Overhaul Awaits DOL Watchdog Probe of States

The Labor Department Inspector General is pressing the nation’s most-populated states about how they’re handling the surge in unemployment insurance claims during the pandemic, a review lawmakers are eagerly awaiting to shape the next stage of legislation on expanded benefits programs.

Info Needed: The IG is asking a sampling of states a comprehensive set of questions about their benefits software, efforts to ensure claimants are eligible, and what more the federal government could’ve done to help, according to a copy of an inquiry letter to states obtained by Bloomberg Law.
