Instacart Ruling Draws First Blood in Contractor Fight

Instacart lost a battle with the city of San Diego over whether the grocery delivery service should consider its shoppers employees, rather than independent contractors. A judge’s ruling was the first response to an attempt to enforce a law making it harder to classify workers as contractors. The decision could influence other court battles.
