Indiana Authority to Halt Jobless Aid Upheld Too Late for State

Indiana officials had the authority to halt payment of federal pandemic unemployment benefits earlier this summer, a state appeals court found in reversing a lower court’s order for the state to resume the federal aid.

Despite that reversal, Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development won’t halt the benefits again before they expire nationwide early next month, said spokesman Scott Olson. Recent guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor said states that resume the federal programs after previously halting them would have to give the DOL a new 30-day notice of their plan to end them again.
