Increased Funds for Job Training, Grants in New Workforce Draft

An initial draft of wide-reaching workforce development legislation would authorize $45.5 billion over six years for services for formerly incarcerated workers, the youth workforce, and bolster other training initiatives.

The legislation would reauthorize through 2028 the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), the primary vehicle for workforce development programs and services across the U.S, while authorizing significant increases in funding for some programs. The workforce law was last authorized in 2014.

A grant program overseen by the U.S. Department of Labor that provides reentry employment assistance for formerly incarcerated workers would be authorized at $250 million in fiscal year 2023, ...
