House Panel OKs Bill to Allow Benefits Changes for USPS Workers

The U.S. Postal Service would be able to make changes to postal employee and retiree benefits under bipartisan legislation approved July 12 by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The Postal Service Reform Act (H.R. 5714), which was reported by voice vote without amendment to the House floor, would allow the service to move postal employees into USPS-only health plans within the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program beginning in January 2018. In addition, the USPS would be able to require postal retirees to integrate their health coverage with Medicare Part A and B when they’re eligible.
