The Labor Department couldn’t unilaterally close Job Corps centers under a provision attached to a House spending bill Tuesday.
House Republicans’ funding package for the departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education would cut spending for Job Corps by around $1 billion after the Trump administration asked to eliminate it entirely for the second year in a row.
The bill seeks to slash over $3 billion from DOL in total, eliminating $25 million from the Wage and Hour Division and $52 million from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
