High Court Rejects Workplace Cybersecurity Case, Leaving Split

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to consider whether employers can sue workers under a federal cybersecurity law for allegedly misusing computers that they were authorized to access, allowing federal courts to stay divided on the issue.

The justices said Monday that they wouldn’t hear a trucking supply company bid to revive its Computer Fraud and Abuse Act lawsuit against two former employees. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit thew out the suit, ruling that the anti-hacking law doesn’t bar workers from improperly using data from computers that they were permitted to access.
