Hecla Miners Strike After Management Takes Over Work Assignments

A change in how work crews are selected at a Mullin, Idaho, mine will put workers at risk, USW representatives told Bloomberg BNA March 24.

The dispute pushed the mine’s 250 workers to go on strike earlier this month, according to Epler.

Lucky Friday, owned by Hecla Mining Co., wants to place job assignment responsibilities solely in the hands of management, Phil Epler, the president of United Steelworkers Local 5114, said. This change would endanger the lives of the miners, he said.
