Health-Care Company Tried to Undermine Union, Labor Board Says

A health-care company violated federal labor law by looking to standardize benefits between union and nonunion workers without the union’s consent, the federal labor board has found.

The New Jersey-based company at the center of the decision, Hackensack Meridian Health, sought to realign employee benefits across its 33,000-person workforce after a merger of two smaller health systems in 2016. About 3,000 of those employees were represented by a union, obligating the employer to collectively bargain over the changes, a three-member panel of the National Labor Relations Board said in a 2-1 decision Monday.
