Premium processing for H-1B petitions subject to the fiscal year 2017 cap will begin May 12, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced April 22.
Although premium processing normally guarantees that the agency will process a petition within 15 calendar days of receipt, the sheer volume of H-1B highly skilled guestworker petitions received this year made that impossible. Instead, the 15-day period starts May 12 for all cap-subject petitions received this year, regardless of the date the premium processing fee was actually received, the USCIS said.
The agency received 236,000 petitions this year for a total of 85,000 available visas2016 IDSN 106, 4/15/16, 72 Homeland Security Briefing, 4/14/16, 71 DLR A-7, 4/13/16, 10 WIR 09, 4/25/16, 30 LRW 748, 4/20/16, 34 HRR 403, 4/18/16
