Governor Signs California Covid-19 Paid Leave Measure Into Law

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a bill Friday to provide two supplemental weeks of Covid-19 sick leave for workers through Sept. 30.

The measure (S.B. 95), which the state Senate approved Thursday, takes effect in 10 days. It covers California workplaces with 26 or more employees and offers a $511-per-day payroll tax credit for employers. The policy is retroactive to Jan. 1, meaning employees can receive compensation for any unpaid Covid-19 sick leave taken since the beginning of the year.
