Former Construction Firm Owner Sentenced in Florida Fall Death

A former owner of a Florida construction company will serve a 30-day prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor of willfully violating federal fall protection standards.

Stalin Rene Barahona, former owner of the now-dissolved SB Framing Services Inc. in Naples, Fla., will begin his sentence Feb. 26. The criminal proceedings began after a September 2015 incident in which an SB Framing Services employee fell from an elevated construction platform 19.6 feet off the ground and died.

Barahona already faced a $53,900 fine from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which had cited the company for a willful violation...
