Florida Shipbuilder Fined $271,000 After Worker Drowns

North Florida Shipyards Inc. faces citations for more than 20 alleged safety violations and proposed fines of $271,061 after an employee drowned on the job.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited the ship repair business, based in Jacksonville, Fla., for not having workers wear life jackets while working on piers and boats and for failing to protect employees from hazardous energy sources such as air pressure.
