Federal Helium Plant Faces Violations Over Unsafe Work Conditions

The U.S. Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management is facing 21 notices of unsafe working conditions for allegedly violating procedures for the safe handling of chemical materials at its Cliffside Helium Enrichment Unit in Amarillo, Texas, according to an OSHA news release.

The safety breach by a plant that refines and sells helium products to private entities would carry a private sector penalty of $1,023,987, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said on Thursday.
