Failure to Acclimate Workers to Heat
Is Linked to Fatalities, Official Says

The failure of employers to acclimate workers to hot conditions was the factor “most clearly associated” with fatalities because of heat stress, a review of the deaths by the Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Heath Administration concluded in a report published Aug. 8.

“We weren’t so much surprised as we were taken aback that it was so dramatic,” Dr. Michael Hodgson, director of OSHA’s Office of Occupational Medicine told Bloomberg BNA Aug. 12 about the link.
