Employers Must File Injury Reports While Courts Decide Access

As of Jan. 2, an estimated 463,000 employers must start handing over their 2019 injury and illness summaries to federal safety regulators.

The filing mandate comes as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and worker advocates battle in federal court over whether OSHA will have to make the summaries—OSHA Form 300A—publicly available.

The summaries disclose how many workers became sick or had injuries that required treatment beyond first aid in the past year. Employers also must calculate the percentage of full-time equivalent workers who were hurt or became ill.
