EEOC Sues Yale New Haven Hospital for Age Bias Over Exam Policy

A Yale New Haven Hospital policy requiring eye and neuropsychological medical exams from those older than 70 who seek medical privileges violates federal antidiscrimination laws, the EEOC alleges in a complaint filed Tuesday in federal court in Connecticut.

Yale New Haven Hospital Inc. implemented its “Late Career Practitioner Policy” in 2016. The policy requires any individual 70 and older who applies for, or seeks to renew, medical staff privileges at the hospital to take both ophthalmologic and neuropsychological examinations, the suit says.

Individuals and employees younger than age 70 aren’t subject to the requirement, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says....
