The family of a Texas bridge worker who drowned after falling into the Brazos River in Waco will receive nothing after a state appeals court reversed a $17 million judgment against one of the nation’s largest bridge builders.
A three-judge panel of the Texas Court of Appeals for the First District in Houston ruled that state workers’ compensation was adequate recompense to the aggrieved family, who claimed Dallas-based Austin Bridge & Road didn’t provide proper safety measures to protect steel worker Jose Dario Suarez.
