DOL Launches Website to Help Victims of Jobless Benefits Fraud

The U.S. Labor Department has set up a new website to tell victims of unemployment insurance fraud how to identify and report when their names have been used to file bogus claims.

The site, www.dol.gov/fraud, was launched Monday in response to states paying out record levels of fraudulent claims for benefits as sophisticated criminals have preyed on the unemployment insurance system throughout the pandemic.

Many Americans don’t realize they’ve been targeted until they receive a mailed government notice, such as a 1099-G tax form, showing benefits they hadn’t filed for or claimed, according to the DOL website.
