Diversity Woes in Green Groups Come Under House Panel’s Scrutiny

The clash over Biden administration moves to ban oil and gas extraction from pristine lands in the West raised thorny questions at a House panel hearing Tuesday over whether conservation groups are confronting their own role in separating native peoples from their land.

Since its inception, the mainstream environmental movement “has generally been dominated by male, white, affluent leadership,” House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) said at the hearing that focused on justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in environmental policymaking.
