A sweeping labor rights protections bill received its second hearing in front of an Education and Labor subcommittee July 25, but Republican opponents remain unmoved.
The Protecting the Right to Organize Act (H.R. 2474) would substantially broaden workers’ rights to strike and unionize and would provide the National Labor Relations Board more power to punish employers for blocking a union campaign. The measure also would expand the definition of employee in an effort to discourage the misclassification of employees as independent contractors.
