Cyber Charter School Must Abide by Coronavirus Job Leave Law

A cyber charter school is a covered employer subject to the leave requirements of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, a federal court in Pennsylvania said.

Agora Cyber Charter School is a nonprofit operating under a grant of authority from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Heather Haney-Filippone teaches third-grade language arts and special education remotely for Agora.

The Covid-19 pandemic shut down the day care and traditional public schools that Haney-Filippone’s own children attended, while Agora’s operations weren’t impacted. The school initially accommodated her childcare needs by limiting the number of classes Haney-Filippone was required to teach.
