Contractor Religious Defense Proposal Draws 100,000-Plus Comments

A proposal to cement religious defenses that federal contractors can raise against workplace discrimination claims received the most public comments of any proposal brought forth by a federal civil rights agency that oversees government contractors since online commenting was launched in 2003, according to a Bloomberg Law analysis.

The proposal, which formalizes the general policy that religious contractors can make employment decisions based on their faith without penalty, drew 107,295 public comments by Sept. 16, the final day that people could be heard.
