Chicago Park District Owes Another $1.27 Million for Job Bias

The Chicago Park District must pay a Hispanic supervisor who was fired based on her national origin $1.2 million in attorneys’ fees and $49,224 as a tax offset, the Seventh Circuit ruled.

Lydia E. Vega’s case was back before the appeals court for the second time. In April 2020, it found sufficient evidence supported the jury’s verdict for Vega on her discrimination claim under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

The jury awarded Vega $750,000 in compensatory damages. But the trial judge reduced that to $300,000 under Title VII’s limits on employer liability and added $165,163 in back ...
