A federal court in Illinois refused to grant summary judgment to Cook County, Ill., and its sheriff on the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime and minimum wage claims of union represented correctional officers who say they spent additional unpaid time before and after shifts washing hands, sanitizing uniforms, and preparing personal protective equipment due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The court rejected the sheriff’s argument that a collective bargaining agreement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 700 required the officers to arbitrate their claims.
