A lower court improperly dismissed the United Auto Workers’ bid to reopen arbitration with Trane US Inc. over vacation pay for roughly 200 workers laid off when the company closed its Fort Smith, Ark. plant in 2017, the Eighth Circuit ruled. The arbitrator’s initial award, on which the parties later sought clarification, wasn’t intended to be final, a 2-1 majority ruled.
