Bona-Dent, Inc. is entitled to summary judgment on the common law retaliatory discharge and Illinois Whistleblower Act claims of an at-will national sales director who discovered and addressed onboarding issues of employees without necessary employment eligibility documentation being absorbed by Bona-Dent as part of an asset purchase. The sales director alleged that at Bona-Dent’s request he had to exert pressure on a co-worker regarding the status of his potential marriage to his girlfriend, who lacked employment-eligibility documentation. Because he hasn’t created a reasonable inference that the marriage would result in the violation of law, he can’t show the company retaliated...
