California Non-Disclosure Agreement Ban Heads to Governor

California could extend a ban on using legal agreements to silence those who received money in sexual harassment settlements to all types of alleged discrimination, including workplace harassment based on race, under a bill that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) must sign or veto by Oct. 10.

The state Senate on Monday passed the measure (S.B. 331) 30 to 8 after the Assembly voted 48 to 12 in favor last Thursday. If signed, the new law would take effect on Jan. 1, 2022.
