California Health-Care Workplace Violence Rules Enacted

California adopted regulations to reduce workplace violence against health-care workers.

The California Division of Occupational Safety & Health, known as Cal/OSHA, approved the regulations Oct. 21 after nearly two years of meetings and work.

Employers must develop a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan that includes training, protective equipment and medical services, at no cost to employees, at a reasonable time and place on paid time. California employers already were required to develop a workplace injury and illness prevention plan.
