California Employee Pay, Gender Data Would be Reported to State

California employers and contractors would have to report to the state race, ethnicity, and gender data for workers from executives to laborers under a bill the state Senate passed Tuesday.

The aim of the legislation (S.B. 1162) is to close the gender and pay gap, particularly for contractors, that persists across all industries, occupations, and educational levels, bill author Sen. Monique Limón (D) said during the floor vote.

The bill “will help identify and remedy the gender and race pay-gap disparities by requiring pay transparency in every stage of the employment process,” Limón said.
