California Agriculture Businesses Fight Covid-19 Protection Rule

California agriculture organizations are challenging in court the state emergency rule intended to protect workers from on-the-job coronavirus infections.

Six groups, including the California Farm Bureau Federation, the Western Growers Association, and the California Business Roundtable, said the lawsuit was filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The case wasn’t available on the court website and the filing couldn’t be independently confirmed.

California regulators “imposed unrealistic, unfounded and economically harmful standards in total disregard of these realities,” Dave Puglia, president of Western Growers, said in a written statement. “We have no choice but to seek judicial relief.”
