Ca. Governor Vetoes Bill To Limit Arbitration, Other #MeToo Bills

California would violate federal law if it tried to prohibit employers from requiring workers to agree to mandatory arbitration as a condition of employment, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) said.

Brown vetoed A.B. 3080 by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D) that would have restricted the use of arbitration. It was one of several inspired by the #MeToo movement. Although he signed bills to ban nondisclosure agreements in court settlements and allow workers to sue for a single incident of harassment, Brown vetoed the arbitration bill and several others before his deadline of midnight Sept. 30.
