Brandeis Graduate Students Agree to Three-Year Deal

About 200 graduate teaching assistants have reached a tentative three-year labor contract with Brandeis University.

If the deal is ratified, it will mark only the second successful labor agreement at a private university. The students joined Service Employees International Union Local 509 in May 2017.

The proposal would raise the per-course pay to teaching fellows to $5,000 from the current $3,350. The teaching assistants would receive $3,720 per course.

The contract also places a weekly cap of 14 hours per course for teaching fellows and 10 hours per course for teaching assistants.
