Bill to Make Age, Other Bias Easier to Prove Moves to Full House

A bipartisan group of lawmakers June 11 moved forward legislation that would make it easier for workers to prove age and disability discrimination claims in court.

The bill, known as the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act (H.R. 1230, S. 485), would lower a bar that currently requires workers to show that discrimination or retaliation was the reason behind an employer’s decision to fire, demote, or take other adverse actions against them.

The House Education and Labor Committee approved the bill on a 27-18 vote, though it wasn’t immediately known when it would proceed to the House floor...
