Pregnant workers would have clearer protections under federal law to request adjustments to their work responsibilities and schedule, such as lighter duty or break time, under a measure advanced by the House.
The full House on Thursday signed off on the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (H.R. 2694) by a 329-73 vote, with 226 Democrats and 103 Republicans voting in favor. Those opposed were 72 Republicans and one Independent.
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) said the proposal didn’t include an exemption for religious employers, and asked the House to send the bill back to committee, which failed 226-177.
