Biden’s Chemical Safety Board Picks Get Senate Hearing (2)

A Senate panel has scheduled a July 29 confirmation hearing for President Joe Biden‘s three nominees to the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board.

Jennifer Sass, Sylvia Johnson, and Stephen Owens will testify before a Senate Environment and Public Works subcommittee, the panel announced Thursday.

The investigative agency probes chemical and industrial disasters such as the 2010 blowout of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. But it lacks the power to fine companies and has suffered from depleted staffing and a backlog of open cases.
