‘Ban the Box’ Bill for Federal Job Seekers OK’d by House Panel

Legislation that would prohibit federal agencies and contractors from asking job applicants about their criminal histories until the conditional offer stage was approved by a House committee March 26, setting the stage for action by the full House.

The Fair Chance Act (H.R. 1076), approved by voice vote by the House Oversight and Reform Committee, would apply to the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, including the U.S. Postal Service.
