Ban on Hairstyle Discrimination Passes in Colorado House

Colorado would become the fourth state to ban hairstyle discrimination under a bill approved by the state House of Representatives.

Under the Colorado bill (H.B. 1048) approved Wednesday, employers would be prohibited from discriminating against workers on the basis of hair texture and hair type. If approved by the Senate and signed by Gov. Jared Polis (D), the measure would protect employees from discrimination for having their hair in dreadlocks, twists, tight coils, tight curls, cornrows, bantu knots, afros and headwraps. The House passed the bill on a vote of 42-21 and sent it to the Senate.
