Average Pay for State, Local Government Workers Down Slightly

Average pay increases for state and local government workers are inching down in 2019, according to the latest biweekly Bloomberg Law data of U.S. wage settlements.

The average first-year increase in labor contracts through July 29 for state and local employees is 2.7%, after being at 2.8% since April 9. The new figure is the lowest average increase for government workers since October 2018. The average first-year increase for state and local government workers with lump-sum awards such as bonuses factored in was 3%, a 2019 low.
