Another Challenge to Immigrant Detainees’ $1 Pay Goes Forward

The challenge to work conditions in privately run immigrant detention centers is gaining momentum, with another federal judge allowing a proposed class action to go forward.

A group of former detainees at the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego May 14 overcame an attempt by CoreCivic Inc. to throw out their claims against the private prison operator. The detainees are accusing CoreCivic of forced labor as well as violations of California wage and hour law.
