American Airlines Sues Over Big Apple’s Paid Sick Leave Law (1)

American Airlines Inc. filed a lawsuit challenging New York City’s paid sick leave requirement, claiming the law is an impermissible regulation of interstate commerce and an encroachment on federal airline regulations.

The 2014 law requires businesses with five or more employees give paid sick leave to employees who work more than 80 hours per calendar year in New York. Under the law, employers must give one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 leave hours per year.
