Amazon Gets Security Check Claims Cut in Warehouse Worker Suit

A group of Ohio-based Amazon warehouse workers can pursue their state overtime claim for time spent in mandatory security screenings before lunch, but not for inspections they go through when they leave work, a federal judge ruled.

Post-shift security screenings aren’t compensable because Ohio wage law expressly incorporates the federal Portal-to-Portal Act, Judge Pamela A. Barker of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio said Thursday. While the state’s high court hasn’t yet ruled on the issue, other Ohio district courts have reached the same conclusion.
