California has fined Amazon.com Services LLC and a contractor a total of $6.4 million for alleged wage theft violations against 718 workers, the state Department of Industrial Relations said.
An investigation that began in June 2019 found that drivers for Green Messengers Inc., a contractor that delivered packages on behalf of Amazon Services, “often” worked through meal and rest breaks to complete their assigned deliveries, the state said in a statement Monday. Workers also weren’t paid properly for overtime and split-shift work, and didn’t receive correct pay statements. The investigation covered April 2018 to January 2020.
